Overview
A regional healthcare system was moving its disparate applications and data sources onto the Epic electronic medical records platform. CEdge, as prime contractor, assembled a multidisciplinary team to plan and carry out that move and to keep the surrounding IT environment secure and supported while it happened. The work ran from mid-2018 into early 2019.
Scope of Work
- Strategic planning and architecture transformation for the move to the new records platform
- Data migration and data mining, bringing information from many source systems into one clinical record
- Clinical informatics support across multiple clinical and technical modules
- Security posture improvements to keep the environment HIPAA compliant
- Cloud DevOps and API integration between the records platform and the systems around it
- Network engineering and database administration
- Help desk support for the user base
How We Worked
The user base was extensive and the requirements kept evolving as each module came online, so we staffed the engagement as a blended team of clinical informatics, data, infrastructure, and security specialists under one prime contract. Planning, migration, integration, and day-to-day support moved together instead of waiting on separate vendors, and the health system had one accountable point of contact.
Result
Applications and data sources that had grown up separately were brought onto a single records platform, with security and compliance work done alongside the migration rather than after it.
