Challenge

A leading manufacturer of in-ground residential swimming pools and components set out to move from taking customer orders by phone, fax, and email, and typing them into its ERP system by hand, to taking them on the web. The company spent more than two years on an SAP Hybris implementation with two different providers and was still stuck:

  • The B2B site had major performance problems because the build did not follow Hybris best practices
  • Integrations with the back office and with suppliers were poor
  • Order calculations were inaccurate, including taxes, freight charges, promotions, and fees
  • Deployments were manual and error-prone, which caused problems in production

Our Approach

CEdge took over the project and started by assessing the existing architecture and business processes, then built a technology roadmap before changing the platform.

Fix the foundation

We resolved the performance problems by bringing the implementation back in line with Hybris best practices, and we brought in specialist resources to clear the issues left by the previous vendor while the new work continued on schedule.

Connect the business

We rebuilt the integrations with the back office and suppliers, including EDI exchanges with trading partners across more than twenty document types, so orders flowed to fulfillment without manual rekeying. We worked through the order calculation problems covering taxes, freight, promotions, and fees.

Make delivery repeatable

We replaced manual deployments with an automated build and deployment pipeline and a structured Agile process, so releases became predictable instead of risky.

Improve the experience

Beyond the repairs, we made numerous improvements to the look, efficiency, and usefulness of the site, prototyping and testing with real users before committing to major changes.

Results

  • All critical performance issues resolved, with minimal disruption to customers at go-live
  • A more useful, efficient platform serving both business and consumer customers
  • Capacity to handle increased order volume as the business grew on the new channel
  • A relationship that has continued for more than a decade, from the rescue through major version upgrades, DevSecOps, and cloud migration
